The lip keeps it from falling into the bottle; you should be able to remove it with a fingernail or by turning it upside down over a sink. Once removed, refill the bottle with water to the fill line, drop in a new refill cartridge, reattach the sprayer and keep cleaning!
The bottle is designed to last 10+ years based on the typical spray usage.

*Refill compared to 32 oz. Clorox® Clean-Up® Cleaner+Bleach1 bottle.
By not shipping water and due to using a smaller package, we're reducing the number of trucks on the road by 70% compared to when transporting the equivalent volume vs. a 32 oz. spray bottle.
While the refill cartridge is made of recyclable materials, its size makes it so that it can't be properly sorted during the recycling process. Because of this, we label it as non-recyclable and that it should be disposed of in the trash to prevent contamination of other recycling streams.
