Question

Is it ok to use OxiClean® Laundry Stain Remover Spray with regular Clorox® Disinfecting Bleach?

Answer

Yes, it’s okay–laundry pretreatment products and stain remover sprays made with surfactants and enzymes can be applied to stains before washing laundry with Clorox® Disinfecting Bleach. You can also use liquid laundry detergent as a pretreater before washing with bleach.

Products that include an oxygen bleach, on the other hand, generally shouldn’t be used with Clorox® Disinfecting Bleach for the simple reason that the two different chemistries (peroxide bleaching versus sodium hypochlorite bleaching) essentially cancel each other out. Check the ingredient list—sodium percarbonate, sodium perborate and hydrogen peroxide are some examples of oxygen bleach ingredients. And remember, Clorox® Disinfecting Bleach should never be combined with products that contain ammonia or strong acids because hazardous gases may form.
