7 Lessons I Learned from My Cat

7 Life Lessons I Learned from My Cat

Pretty sure I'm going to be a feline in my next life.

Life lessons don't come easy and there's a ton to learn. My favorite teach? My cat. Here's what I've gathered so far:

1. Take more leaps of faith

Seeing my cat laugh in the face of danger as he jumps from ceiling fan to coat hook and then out the window has taught me to take more chances. If you're not leaping you're not living.

2. Lounging is life

And then there's the opposite of leaping. Lounging. If you're a workaholic, it's good to relax. Just perch yourself on the couch and watch people walk by with their dogs for 4 hours. It'll recharge you.

3. Be easily entertained

If unraveling a ball of yarn can be entertaining, it bodes well for your pocketbook. "No thanks guys, I'll pass on Vegas. I recently discovered a bunch of cool things in my junk drawer I should play with."

4. Initiate affection

In a world where we rely on texting a email to communicate with our loved ones, it can be hard to hold on to the intimacy. Something I learned from my cat: Whenever you want attention — grab their phone and nuzzle your head into their hands instead. Works every time.

5. Anti-social is OK

Sometimes people just need to be alone. Cats pull this off well, and make no apologies for it. Need to be anti-social for a minute? It's okay: Wear it on your sleeve. One-on-one time with yourself can really put things in perspective.

6. Sleep more

It's after lunch, and you can't stop yawning. Catnap anyone?

7. Try to fit in more

Want to join a group of friends but you're afraid you won't fit in? You'd be surprised where you can fit. I've watched my cat fit into tons of things that I never thought possible. Lesson learned.
