Washing Comforters

How do I bleach my white comforter?

First, it’s best to wash your comforter in a front loading washing machine since it’s large and bulky. If you don’t have one, laundromats have front loading washers and also have large capacity dryers, which can make it easier to tumble dry bulky items.

If the comforter is synthetic filled, then you can wash it in hot water using detergent and Clorox® Regular-Bleach. Use the bleach dispenser on the machine to add the bleach, filling it to the “max fill” line which equals ½ cup, the recommended amount for regular laundry loads.

If the comforter is down filled, wash it in hot water using detergent and Clorox2® Stain Fighter and Color Booster. Use liquid Clorox2® (filled to line 1) with your liquid laundry detergent, adding them together in the clothes washer’s detergent dispenser. It’s also good to select an extra rinse.

To dry the comforter, select a hot dryer setting, and tumble dry the comforter with a few clean tennis balls to restore its loft. Be sure the comforter is completely dry—this is especially important with down. Look for damp clumps, and add more drying time if necessary.
