Tips and Tricks for Cleaning Up After Your Pets

Cleaning up after our furry family

We know that your pets are treasured parts of your household — they truly are furry (and sometimes drool-y) extensions to the family tree. Here are some tips to help clean up the fur and saliva they tend to leave behind.

  1. For the pets that will never be bald: How to clean up pet hair
    1. Clorox® Triple Action Dust Wipes are purrfect for picking up pet hairs.
      1. For hardwood or tile floors, use our extra-large sized wipes to put on the bottom of sweepers.
      2. Start sweeping away from the edge of the room and move towards the center.
    2. For stairways, use the regular-sized Clorox® Triple Action Dust Wipes
      1. Start from the top of the stairs and move downwards, while maximizing the use of clean areas on the wipe. This will allow the wipe to grab more pet hair, dust and allergens*!
  2. For the pets that love to be groomed: How to unclog your bathtub
    1. Groom them! Reduce the amount of pet hair shed in the first place by regularly grooming your pet. Our friends at Liquid-Plumr say that not only will grooming lessen the amount of hair shed in your home; it also removes dirt and is great for your animal’s skin. This sounds like a win-win. Check out this article on how to wash your pet without clogging the drain.
    2. Eliminate cleanup time and hassle with by dosing your drain with Liquid-Plumr® Hair Clog Eliminator™ after you’re done bathing them.
  3. For the pets with an unlimited amount of saliva: How to clean and disinfect pet bowls and toys
    1. Dirty bowls? Dirty toys? Let’s wash it all at once!
      1. Take your dirty pet bowl and rinse thoroughly with water.
      2. Next, mix 1 tablespoon of Clorox® Regular-Bleach1 per 1 gallon of water.
      3. Fill your pet bowl with the mixture, and let stand for two minutes.
      4. Throw in any toys or pet extras that need some cleaning into the bowl. After another 2 minutes, drain the mixture, and allow the bowl and toys to air dry.
  4. For the pets who will never go undetected: How to clean pet messes off floors
    1. We love when our outdoor pets come inside the home, but don’t want them bringing anything else along with them. Got dirt, mud and who knows what else all over your carpet? Let’s remove those germs quickly and effectively!
      1. First, make sure your carpet is colorfast. How do I do that?*
      2. Take a splash of Original Pine-Sol®, and rub into dirty areas on the carpet.
      3. Wipe down the treated areas with water.
      4. Take a towel or cloth and dry the areas thoroughly.
      5. Love the way your carpet looks? Use all over your carpets for a good and refreshing clean.

*Check your carpets, mattresses or upholstery for colorfastness to avoid discoloring. Here’s what to do:

Put 2 teaspoons of Clorox® Regular-Bleach1 in ¼ cup of water. Find a hidden part of the carpet, mattress or upholstery you are testing. Put just a drop on this hidden area, wait one minute, and then dry with a towel. Don’t see any color change? Then you’ve passed the test! If you do see some change in color, this will show you much your area will discolor if you chose to treat it.
