4 Worst Things Lurking on Your Countertops

Here are four things to watch out for as you go about your Kitchen Patrol Duty.

Even if your counters LOOK clean they may be teeming with what professionals call “grossness.” Here are four things to watch out for as you go about your Kitchen Patrol Duty.

1. Old milk. This is possibly the worst liquid to spill —  and if you have kids, the likeliest. Once it hits your counter, it begins its slow transformation from delightful liquid into sour solid. A sometimes invisible, but very smelly solid.

2. Meat juice. Different meats produce different juices. Beef has “Eau de Coli”, while poultry has “Salmonellanade,” neither of which are great for your family to drink. Best to clean up these spills right away or run the risk of contaminating the pork’s “Sparkling Trichinosis Blend.”

3. Coffee mix. Spilled coffee on its own is not that bad, some might even say pleasant. But if your coffee is more like a meal (read: loaded with cream and sugar) then it creates a sticky, fermented mess. Don’t try licking it off the counter, no matter how bad you need a pick-me-up. This is a job for wipes.

4. Bacteria. In every tiny little crevice and crack of your counter, bacteria may be lurking. Until they make bacteria-resistant countertops (someone please?), better remain vigilant with the disinfecting.

So keep calm and kitchen on!
