Hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide is an oxygen-based bleaching agent, used to sanitize and remove stains. It is used in products such as toilet bowl and all-purpose cleaners, and color-safe bleaches.

Isopropyl alcohol
Isopropyl alcohol, also known as isopropanol, is used as a solvent in glass and all-purpose cleaning products. Its antimicrobial properties make it useful in disinfecting products as well.

Surfactants
These detergent-like ingredients enhance the product’s overall cleaning performance.

Fragrance
Fragrances and perfumes are mixtures of fragrant essential oils, aroma compounds, fixatives and solvents. They are used in cleaning products to add a particular scent (lavender, lemon, etc.) to clothes and homes, and to mask unpleasant odors.

Water
Water, also sometimes listed on product labels as aqua, is the most widely used of all solvents. It is a colorless, odorless and flavorless liquid and serves as the base of many cleaning products.

Glycerin
Glycerin is used in soaps, lotions and creams to add moisturizing qualities. It is a neutral, colorless liquid made during soap production.

Alkyl polyglucoside
Alkyl polyglucoside is a mild surfactant used in household and commercial cleaning products. It is known for its foam boosting ability, lack of streaking, easy rinsing, and is ideal for glass cleaners.

Boric acid
Boric acid (or borax) is used in laundry detergents and boosters. Borax is also a good buffer, helping to keep the pH of a solution stable for optimum cleaning activity. It also stabilizes enzymes.

Sodium citrate
Sodium citrate is used in hard surface cleaning products as a preservative. Chelating agent that helps with cleaning.

Sodium hydroxide
Sodium hydroxide, also known as caustic soda or lye, is used as a pH adjuster in cleaning products. As an alkali, it is useful in cleaning products for removing soils that are fatty, oily or acidic.

Xanthan gum
Xanthan gum is a thickener that increases viscosity.

Calcium chloride
Calcium chloride is used as a cleaning enhancer in liquid detergents, and also helps decrease the thickness of certain fabric softeners. It also stabilizes enzymes.
