Usage Instructions

Get tips on how to use Clorox® Regular-Bleach to whiten, remove stains, and disinfect to keep your home and family germ-free.

  • Whitening Laundry and Removing Stains

    Washer Product measurement Instructions
    Standard washer ¾ Cup For best results: Add bleach and detergent to wash water. If dispenser is available, fill to the maximum level. Add laundry.
    HE washers ¾ Cup For HE machines, fill dispenser to maximum level.
    Special Laundry Needs
    Pre-soak Rinse stain with clean water. Combine ¼ cup Clorox® Regular-Bleach per gallon of cool water. Submerge entire garment and soak for 5 minutes. Wash immediately using detergent and ¾ cup Clorox® Regular-Bleach.
    Hand-wash Rinse with clean water to remove loose soil. Fully soak each garment for 5 minutes in a solution of ¼ cup of Clorox® Regular-Bleach to 1 gallon of cool water.
    Heavily-Soiled Rinse with clean water to remove loose soil. Fully soak each garment for 5 minutes in a solution of ¼ cup of Clorox® Regular-Bleach to 1 gallon of cool water.
    Disinfect & kill bacteria Add ¾ cup of Clorox® Regular-Bleach to a standard size washer following detergent. If dispenser is available fill to the maximum level. Add laundry.

      Surface   Instructions
      Dishes & Plastic Cutting Boards Dishes & Plastic Cutting Boards Mix 1 Tbsp of Clorox® Regular-Bleach with one gallon of water. Soak pre-washed cutting board 2 minutes. Drain and air dry.
      Baby Bottles Baby Bottles Mix 1 Tbsp of Clorox® Regular-Bleach with one gallon of water. Soak pre-washed bottles 2 minutes. Pour solution through nipples. Drain and air dry.
      Sippy Cups Sippy Cups Mix 1 Tbsp of Clorox® Regular-Bleach per gallon of water. Soak pre-washed cups for 2 minutes. Drain and air dry.
      Wooden Cutting Boards Wooden Cutting Boards Mix 3 Tbsp of Clorox® Regular-Bleach per gallon of water. Pour solution over prewashed cutting board and let stand for 2 minutes. Rinse with 1 tbsp of Clorox® Regular-Bleach per gallon of water. Do not rinse or soak overnight.
      Appliances Appliances Pre-wash surface with clean water. Mix ¾ cup Clorox® Regular-Bleach into 1 gallon of water. Wipe appliance with bleach solution and let stand for 5 minutes. Rinse well and air dry.
      Kitchen Countertops & Floors* Kitchen Countertops & Floors Pre-wash surface with clean water. Mix ¾ cup Clorox® Regular-Bleach into 1 gallon of water. Wipe or mop surface with bleach solution and let stand for 5 minutes. Rinse well and air dry. *Safe for nonporous surfaces only
      Sinks & Faucets Sinks & Faucets Pre-wash surface with clean water. Mix ¾ cup Clorox® Regular-Bleach into 1 gallon of water. Wipe surface with bleach solution and let stand for 5 minutes. Rinse well and air dry.
      Garbage Cans & Disposals Garbage Cans & Disposals Pre-wash surface with clean water. Mix ¾ cup Clorox® Regular Bleach into 1 gallon of water. Wipe pail surfaces with bleach solution and let stand for 5 minutes. Rinse well and air dry. For disposal, pour ¾ cup bleach into drain while running disposal and water
    • In the Bathroom
      Surface   Instructions
      Toilets & Bidets Toilets & Bidets Flush toilet or bidet. Pour 1 cup of Clorox® Regular-Bleach into bowl. Brush bowl with scrub brush and let stand for 10 minutes. Flush.
      Bathtubs Bathtubs Pre-wash surface with clean water. Mix ¾ cup Clorox® Regular-Bleach into 1 gallon of water. Wipe or mop surface with bleach solution and let stand for 5 minutes. Rinse well and air dry.
      Sinks & Faucets Sinks & Faucets Pre-wash surface with clean water. Mix ¾ cup Clorox® Regular-Bleach into 1 gallon of water. Wipe surface with bleach solution and let stand for 5 minutes. Rinse well and air dry.
      Tiled Surfaces Tiled Surfaces Pre-wash surface with clean water. Mix ¾ cup Clorox® Regular-Bleach into 1 gallon of water. Wipe or mop surface with bleach solution and let stand for 5 minutes. Rinse well and air dry.
      Plastic Bath Toys & Rubber Ducks Plastic Bath Toys & Rubber Ducks Mix ¾ cups of Clorox® Regular-Bleach per gallon of water. Soak prewashed toys 5 minutes. Rinse and let air dry.
    • In the Nursery & Kids Rooms
      Surface   Instructions
      Plastic Toys Plastic Toys Mix ¾ cups of Clorox® Regular-Bleach per gallon of water. Soak prewashed toys 5 minutes. Rinse and let air dry.
      Teething Rings Teething Rings Mix 1 TBSP cups of Clorox® Regular-Bleach per gallon of water. Soak prewashed teething ring for 5 minutes. Rinse, drain and let air dry.
      High Chair High Chair Mix ¾ cups of Clorox® Regular-Bleach per gallon of water. Sponge down prewashed surface and let stand 5 minutes. Rinse and let air dry.
      Potty Seat Potty Seat Mix ¾ cups of Clorox® Regular-Bleach per gallon of water. Empty seat and fill with bleach solution. Let stand for 5 minutes. Rinse, drain and let air dry. Changing Tables & Plastic Mattress Covers Mix ¾ cups of Clorox® Regular-Bleach per gallon of water. Sponge down prewashed surface and let stand 5 minutes. Rinse and let air dry.

      Surface   Instructions
      Light Switches Light Switches Mix ¾ cups of Clorox® Regular-Bleach per gallon of water. Prewash surface. Wipe with bleach solution and let stand for 5 minutes. Rinse and let air dry.
      Walls Walls Mix ¾ cups of Clorox® Regular-Bleach per gallon of water. Prewash surface. Wipe or mop with bleach solution and let stand for 5 minutes. Rinse and let air dry.
      Pet Bowls Pet Bowls Mix 1 TBSP of Clorox® Regular-Bleach per gallon of water. Prewash surface. Fill prewashed bowls and let stand 2 minutes. Drain and air dry.
      Travel Mugs & Water Bottles Travel Mugs & Water Bottles Wash as normal. Mix 1 TBSP of Clorox® Regular-Bleach per gallon of water. Prewash surface. Fill prewashed bowls and let stand 2 minutes. Drain and air dry.

      Disinfecting Water Disinfecting Water When boiling off water for 1 minute is not possible in an emergency situation, disinfect water by:
      1. Remove suspended particles by filtering or letting particles settle to the bottom. Pour clear water into a clean container.
      2. Add 8 drops of Clorox® Regular-Bleach to one gallon of water (2 drops to 1 quart). For cloudy water, use 16 drops per gallon of water (4 drops to 1 quart).
      3. Let treated water to stand for 30 minutes. Water should have a slight bleach odor. If not, repeat and wait another 15 minutes. The treated water can then be made palatable by pouring it between clean containers several times.
