Clean up dust and mold to reduce irritants that cause indoor allergies

Although many people associate allergies with pollen and spring time, common household allergens from dust mites, pet dander, and mold can also pose a big challenge for allergy sufferers year-round. If you or your family member has symptoms of allergies or asthma, you'll be glad to know there are some simple steps you can take to reduce sinus irritants such as dust mite matter, mold or mildew in your home.

Fabrics

Reduce the number of allergens in your household by regularly laundering bed linens in hot water or Clorox® Plus™ Anti-Allergen Bleach, a fragrance free bleach that denatures common household allergens such as mold, dust mite matter and pet dander.

Other steps to reduce dust mite allergens at home include:

  • Removing carpet and upholstered furniture from your child's room
  • Zipping mattresses and pillows into washable covers
  • Cleaning the room regularly with a vacuum using a HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filter
  • Damp mopping the floor to keep irritants from getting airborne.

Soft Surfaces

Spray soft surfaces, such as cushions, bedding, carpets, and clothing, in your home with Clorox® Anywhere® Anti-Allergen Fabric Spray. This gentle and effective formula helps neutralize up to 90% of common indoor allergens including those from dust mites and pet dander that can hide in upholstery and fabrics throughout the house. Clorox® Anywhere® Anti-Allergen Fabric Spray is gentle enough to use around kids and pets and safe on virtually all fabrics including bedding, stuffed animals, clothing, and curtains.

Hard Surfaces

Mold and mildew can be found on hard surfaces around the house. Spray the Clorox® Clean-Up® Cleaner with Bleach 4 to 6 inches from the surface until thoroughly wet, let stand for 5 minutes, and rinse or wipe clean to kill mildew. Use it to clean and disinfect bathtubs, counters, showers, sinks, refrigerators, glazed ceramic tile, and fiberglass.

Avoid contact with clothes, fabric, wood, rubber, painted and paper surfaces. Prolonged contact with metal, old porcelain or worn plastic laminate may cause discoloration. For heavily soiled surfaces, preclean surface before disinfecting. It's best to clean up mold immediately and monitor the area. If the mold recurs, check for a leaky pipe or other water source that needs repair.
