Plastic, cloth, fitted, organic? You may have to go on a small quest to find the perfect diaper fit. But when it comes to the diaper station, there are a few clear rules to keeping it clean and sanitary.
Parents using cloth diapers should keep two to three dozen on hand so that diapers only have to be washed every four or five days. To enhance absorbency, wash the diapers 5 to 10 times before actually using them.
Your best options for storing wet or soiled cloth diapers are the following:
If your choice is disposable diapers, you'll also want to have a locking pail to toss soiled diapers in before transferring them to the trash.
Baking soda also works to counteract urine smell. Add it to the wash or while soaking diapers in a pail with water.
To disinfect and deodorize cloth diapers, add ¾ cup of Clorox® Regular-Bleach to each diaper wash load. (If you've used baking soda during the soak, the bleach will restore the diaper's pH). Diapers should be washed separately, as they're particularly inviting to bacteria.
*Use as directed on hard, non-porous surfaces.
