Your best options for storing wet or soiled cloth diapers are the following:

  1. Place in a covered, locking dry pail and sprinkle baking soda to mitigate odors.

  2. Place in a covered, locking pail half filled with water to let the diapers soak.

    or

  3. Keep a dry pail in the bathroom by the toilet so that you can dunk diapers briefly in the toilet before placing them in the pail for storage.

If your choice is disposable diapers, you'll also want to have a locking pail to toss soiled diapers in before transferring them to the trash.

Baking soda also works to counteract urine smell. Add it to the wash or while soaking diapers in a pail with water.

To disinfect and deodorize cloth diapers, add ¾ cup of Clorox® Regular-Bleach to each diaper wash load. (If you've used baking soda during the soak, the bleach will restore the diaper's pH). Diapers should be washed separately, as they're particularly inviting to bacteria.

*Use as directed on hard, non-porous surfaces.
